New Exhibit added to MSMC

Thank you, Ger­ald Goff of Wade, MS for metic­u­lous­ly hand craft­ing a dug out Canoe from a local­ly grown cypress tree and donat­ing your crafts­man­ship to our exhib­it col­lec­tion!! It repli­cates per­fect­ly the dugout used by Native Amer­i­cans and ear­ly set­tlers hun­dreds of years ago! We are beyond impressed and grate­ful for its significance!

Our mar­itime edu­ca­tion cen­ter has EXTENDED our GENSEA mar­itime work­force train­ing part­ner­ship through the Spring of 2024! We are excit­ed to con­tin­ue host­ing Mis­sis­sip­pi’s own GENSEA students!!”

GenSea is a STEM work­force devel­op­ment pro­gram run by USM’s Cen­ter for STEM Edu­ca­tion
GenSea com­bats brain drain in Mis­sis­sip­pi by intro­duc­ing kids to the vast array of oppor­tu­ni­ties avail­able here on the Coast through field trips, teacher pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment, and high school intern­ships. Stay tuned for more mar­itime ingenuity!

Learn more about the mar­itime world? Meet new friends? Then The Mis­sis­sip­pi Ship­build­ing and Mar­itime Cen­ter is the place for you! MSMC offers excit­ing vol­un­teer oppor­tu­ni­ties for many diverse skill sets. Start vol­un­teer­ing at MSMC today!

Train­ing is pro­vid­ed and no pri­or knowl­edge is required. Sched­ules are flex­i­ble, though we do rec­om­mend that vol­un­teers spend at least four hours a month at the museum.

Local Lead­ers present “projects of his­tor­i­cal growth” at Mis­sis­sip­pi Her­itage Trust Con­fer­ence” held at the MS Ship­build­ing and Mar­itime Center.

Our mar­itime team has trans­formed our Activ­i­ty Cen­ter and 3,000 Sq Ft of open space into a wood­en boat, mar­itime design, inter­pre­tive approach. Our exhib­it dis­plays will pro­vide trans­for­ma­tive expe­ri­ences for visitors –

Our commitment to our community’s GO BLUE maritime workforce continues!

We host­ed NOAA’s hir­ing event last Thurs­day in our con­fer­ence room to huge suc­cess. We had dou­ble the foot traf­fic of the Gulf­port event two days pri­or! Sev­en can­di­dates were hired on the spot, with sev­er­al more can­di­dates begin­ning the process of being hired at the event.

The Nation­al Park Ser­vice  (NPS) has announced the des­ig­na­tion of 18 new com­mu­ni­ties across the Unit­ed States as Amer­i­can World War II Her­itage Cities with one Mis­sis­sip­pi city mak­ing the list.

Pascagoula has been hon­ored for its role in assist­ing the U.S. dur­ing World War II. The Coastal Mis­sis­sip­pi city was known for its defense pro­duc­tion for wartime efforts — specif­i­cal­ly ocean-going barges that were man­u­fac­tured by Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Our first phase of exhibits grand open­ing is just around the cor­ner! Please con­sid­er donat­ing or loan­ing us your spe­cial possession.
